The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a significant weather advisory on Wednesday, indicating that the cyclonic storm named Dana is on track to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm as it approaches the northwest region of the Bay of Bengal. This transformation is expected to occur in the early hours of October 24, 2024.
As the storm develops, it is projected to make landfall along the coastal areas of north Odisha and West Bengal. The specific locations identified for potential impact include the stretch between Puri and Sagar Island, with particular attention to the regions near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra in Odisha. The anticipated timeframe for landfall is during the night of October 24, extending into the early morning hours of October 25, 2024.
Meteorological forecasts suggest that the severe cyclonic storm will generate powerful wind speeds ranging from 100 to 110 kmph. In addition to these sustained winds, there is a possibility of gusts reaching up to 120 kmph, which could lead to significant damage and disruption in the affected areas.
Residents and authorities in the coastal regions are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for the impending storm, as the combination of high winds and heavy rainfall associated with severe cyclonic storms can pose serious risks to life and property. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary to ensure public safety and preparedness.
