Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha following the resignation of Raghubar Das, as announced in a press release from the President’s secretariat. Sources indicate that Das, who assumed the role of Odisha Governor in October 2023, stepped down for personal reasons. There is considerable speculation that the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand may re-enter active politics in his home state. Hari Babu, aged 71 and originally from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, was appointed as the Governor of Mizoram in July 2021. General Vijay Kumar Singh (retd) will succeed him in Mizoram.
Hari Babu was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Visakhapatnam-1 constituency in 1999 and later to the Lok Sabha from the Visakhapatnam parliamentary constituency in 2014. He served on the task force established by the Centre for the Interlinking of Rivers from 2003 to 2004. Holding a PhD, Hari Babu spent 24 years as a faculty member at Andhra University Engineering College before entering politics. Additionally, the President appointed Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Bihar, to serve as the Governor of Kerala. At the same time, Arif Mohammed Khan, the Governor of Kerala, has been designated as the Governor of Bihar. Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as the Governor of Manipur.
