More than 35.38 lakh farmers in Odisha received ₹3,000 crore under the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

Under the scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed over ₹18,690 crore directly to more than 9.34 crore farmers across the country via direct benefit transfer at a programme in Banaskantha, Gujarat.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined the programme virtually from Bhubaneswar and addressed beneficiaries at a state-level PM-KISAN Utsav.

Describing farmers as the backbone of the rural economy, CM Majhi said their welfare and empowerment remained a priority for his government. He highlighted several initiatives, including the Centre’s PM-KISAN scheme, the state’s CM-KISAN programme, paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal, the Subhadra Yojana, the Krushi Vidyanidhi scholarship and the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.

The Chief Minister also said the government was working to revive millet cultivation across all 30 districts of Odisha.

Expressing concern over crop losses caused by recent floods in districts including Ganjam and Gajapati, CM Majhi assured farmers that affected families would receive assistance based on damage assessments and in accordance with existing norms.

Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo and other dignitaries attended the state-level programme.

The gathering observed a one-minute silence following the death of Kashi Bai, mother of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Friday morning. CM Majhi and Singh Deo expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.

Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmer families receive annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each, transferred directly to their bank accounts.
