The nation registered 55,079 COVID-19 cases and 779 fatalities in the last 24 hours. The tally now stands at 16,38,871 infected with 35,747 succumbing to the virus. While 10,57,805 affected have been discharged, while the active cases now stand at 5,45,318. Over a million people have been recovered which is 1.9 times the number of the present active cases.

16 states and UTs have a recovery rate more than the national average of 64.44%. Delhi, Ladakh, Haryana, Assam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat registered the highest number of recovery rate in comparison to other states. Maharashtra remains to be the worst-hit state and has 4,11,798 total cases, including 2,48,615 recovered cases and 1,48,150 active cases. It is followed by Tamil Nadu, which has 2,39,978 cases and then Delhi, which registered 1,34,403 cases.

 

India achieved another milestone with more than six lakh tests conducted within 24 hours on Thursday. The Ministry said that the testing infrastructure has increased and almost one crore tests were conducted in the span of the last one month.
