Due to continuous rainfall in the neighboring state of Jharkhand and certain districts in Odisha, significant rivers have risen, leading to a flood alert for Balasore district.
The district administration is on high alert, and evacuation operations are currently in progress in low-lying regions to ensure the safety of the public.
In addition, the Odisha government has issued a flood alert for Balasore district as a result of the rising rivers, which include the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka.
As of 5 am today, the Subarnarekha River at Rajghat is recorded at 11.24 meters, surpassing the danger threshold of 10.36 meters. The Budhabalanga River at Govindpur remains steady at 7.28 meters, while the Jalaka River at Mathani is receding at 6.95 meters, still above the danger level of 6.5 meters.
The district administration has commenced evacuation efforts to ensure public safety. Furthermore, the State Flood Cell is diligently monitoring the situation and working continuously to mitigate the flood risk.
Moreover, the Odisha Water Resources Department has released a statement cautioning about the increasing water levels in major rivers, including the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka, due to the persistent rainfall in Jharkhand and the Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts of the state. The State Flood Cell is operating around the clock, closely observing the situation to address any potential flood threats.
According to reports, the Collector of Balasore has been notified to accelerate evacuation and relief efforts in the affected areas. The administration is implementing proactive measures to lessen the impact of the forthcoming flood, and residents in at-risk areas are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to official guidance.
Residents are encouraged to stay alert and comply with evacuation directives.
