The officers of the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) have postponed their planned mass leave after receiving a commitment from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to take decisive action against those implicated in the alleged assault on a senior official of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Last night, CM Majhi, accompanied by the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, engaged in discussions with representatives from the OAS Association. During this meeting, the Chief Minister provided assurances that stringent measures would be implemented against all parties involved in the incident.
In response to the Chief Minister’s request to have faith in the legal proceedings, the OAS Association has opted to delay the mass leave that was set to commence on July 1. Nevertheless, the Association made it clear that the protest has not been entirely rescinded.
Previously, the officers had declared a mass leave to express their discontent regarding the alleged assault on BMC Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo. This incident reportedly took place within the BMC office during a grievance redressal meeting, where a group of miscreants physically assaulted the senior official.
The OAS Association condemned the attack and unanimously passed a resolution calling for exemplary punishment for the offenders, as well as demanding improved security measures for government officials at their places of work.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police have initiated a case and apprehended three individuals in connection with the incident.
