The government of Odisha has established a clear and ambitious objective — to rank among the top five most developed states in India. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today during a high-level discussion forum hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Laghu Udyog Bharati, under the theme “Empowering Odisha’s Growth Engine.”
The Chief Minister presented a detailed roadmap that integrates economic growth, infrastructure enhancement, industrial advancement, and social equity to elevate Odisha to a national leader in development by 2036.
He expressed profound appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, indicating that the forthcoming GST reforms—anticipated next month—will serve as a significant turning point for the Indian economy. Reduced GST rates are expected to stimulate consumption, which will subsequently lead to increased manufacturing, job creation, and overall economic growth.
Highlighting a comprehensive strategy, the Chief Minister declared that agriculture, industry, and social development will be the three main drivers of Odisha’s growth. The initiative emphasizes inclusive development, ensuring that progress benefits all sectors and communities, rather than just a privileged few. The state government is committed to transforming Odisha into a manufacturing hub by effectively leveraging its abundant mineral resources, he stated.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Odisha is currently experiencing one of its most ambitious infrastructure transformations: ₹80,000 crore allocated for railway projects, ₹12,000 crore invested in national highways and roads, and ₹8,308 crore approved by the Centre for the Capital Region Ring Road. The state also aims to construct 75,000 km of high-quality roads over the next five years.
Odisha’s airports are being modernized to enhance domestic and international connectivity, while efforts are ongoing to improve the state’s port infrastructure, with plans to establish four new ports in addition to the existing three, he noted.
