The government of Odisha is dedicated to transforming the state into the MSME gateway of eastern India, stated Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday.

While addressing the Odisha Industrial Conclave – 2025, organized by Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB), the chief minister referred to Odisha as a land of opportunities with significant potential, emphasizing that it has become the most appealing destination for MSMEs in the nation.

He mentioned that initiatives such as the Go-Swift single-window system are now capable of approving projects within a single day, and noted that Odisha has allocated 6.1 percent of its GDP towards infrastructure development, which will further bolster the state’s industries and MSME sectors.

Majhi also underscored the success of the Subhadra Yojana, characterizing it as a vital force for the empowerment of rural women. “Subhadra is not merely a subsidy scheme. It is a mission aimed at achieving financial independence for mothers through small enterprises and enhancing their dignity.

This initiative has already produced 17 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’, positioning Odisha as a leading achiever,” he added. Referring to global trends, he noted that small industries represent 90 percent of businesses and account for 50 percent of jobs worldwide, with seven out of ten formal-sector jobs now originating from small enterprises. “Small businesses not only contribute to the economy but also enrich it,” the Chief Minister remarked.

Reiterating that ‘Viksit Odisha O Viksit Bharat’ is not merely a slogan but a genuine commitment, he expressed confidence that Odisha will indeed become the MSME gateway of eastern India.

The chief minister commended LUB for its support of over 980 industrial units, which has generated employment, assisted entrepreneurs, and contributed to the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. He also welcomed LUB’s plan to establish an office in Bhubaneswar, stating that it would enhance collaboration between industry and government from the grassroots to the district level.

MSME minister Gokulananda Mallik said the state government was taking several steps to promote local products, strengthen MSMEs and support artisans. “An Ekta Mall is also being set up at Gandamunda at an investment of `187 crore to support MSMEs,” Mallik said, adding, the government was developing MSME parks in all 30 districts and work in 14 such parks was on the verge of completion.

National president of LUB Madhusudan Dadu, organising secretary Prakash Chandra, Odisha chapter president Gopal Das Agrawal and secretary Pradeep Kumar Nayak were present.

The day-long event, attended by over 1,000 delegates, included panel discussions, B2B meetings and awareness activities targeting a diverse group of entrepreneurs from various sectors.
