Atmanirbhar Odisha Theme for Republic Day Parade Tableau 2025

Odisha’s progress, folk art and handicrafts will be showcased at the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi, on January 26.

Odisha’s progress, along with its vibrant folk art and handicrafts, will be showcased during the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on January 26.

The tableau is designed to illustrate Atmanirbhar Odisha’s evolution from its agrarian and cultural foundations to innovation-driven development. It will highlight the state’s renowned folk dance, Chaiti Ghoda Nacha, alongside artisans demonstrating stone-carving and the crafting of Pipili applique and Sabai grass baskets on the tableau.

Officials from the information and public relations department indicated that the front facade of the tableau will emphasize the state’s commitment to women-led growth and Odisha’s contribution to India’s social and economic advancement. The central section will showcase a semiconductor chip symbolizing technological progress and Koraput coffee, which represents sustainable livelihoods and excellence in tribal agriculture.

Artists Gajendra Sahoo and Kirti Maharana conceptualized and designed the tableau, which measures 45 feet in length, 14 feet in width, and 16 feet in height.

Another highlight will be a replica of Odisha’s sole World Heritage Site, the Sun Temple at Konark, accompanied by two ornate idols of Lord Ganesh. The intention is to illustrate the rich history of stone-carving in Odisha through the Konark Temple and the continuity of tradition in contemporary times, represented by the Lord Ganesh idols and live demonstrations on the tableau.

Dokra craft, primarily practiced in the Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Rayagada districts, along with floral designs in Rupa Tarakasi, or silver filigree craft, which is integral to Cuttack’s identity, will further embellish the tableau.

A total of 12 dancers will present Chaiti Ghoda Nacha on the tableau, while two craftsmen will each showcase the three aforementioned handicrafts.

At present, 45 artisans from the state are applying the finishing touches to the tableau float at the Rashtriya Rangshala camp located in Delhi Cantonment. The state’s tableau has been chosen for the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path after a one-year hiatus.
