To enhance governance efficiency and develop a digitally skilled administrative workforce in Odisha, the state government has mandated that all officers gain knowledge in Artificial Intelligence (AI). In a letter from Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, it was announced that these officers will participate in a three-month online AI course.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s overarching objective of cultivating a digitally adept and future-ready administrative team. The Chief Secretary has directed all departments to ensure that their officers are required to enroll in and complete at least one foundational AI course.
The letter, dated April 15, emphasized the growing importance of innovations like AI in transforming governance. It highlighted AI’s potential to significantly enhance government operations, facilitating easier interactions for citizens, enabling predictive analysis, improving grievance redressal systems, and optimizing planning and monitoring of service delivery outcomes.
Ahuja emphasized the necessity for state administration officers to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the principles, tools, and applications of artificial intelligence. He noted that grasping these technologies is crucial not only for making informed decisions but also for crafting policies that prioritize citizens, managing extensive data systems, and improving administrative efficiency. He mentioned that these courses are offered at no cost on reputable platforms and are structured to provide both theoretical insights and practical applications.
The state government has also suggested several platforms for this purpose. The chief secretary has mandated that officers complete these courses within a three-month timeframe. Departments are encouraged to appoint a nodal officer responsible for overseeing the implementation, facilitating enrollment, and ensuring adherence to deadlines.
The letter stated, “Consolidated reports detailing the number of officers who have successfully completed these courses must be submitted to the chief secretary’s office within the specified timeframe.”
