The uncertainty regarding the timing of Diwali festivities in Odisha has been clarified. The Mukti Mandap Pandit Mahasabha of Puri has announced that both Diwali and Paya Shraddha will take place on October 20.
This formal announcement by the Mukti Mandal Pandits during a press conference has resolved the confusion stemming from varying dates in different calendars.
According to the Pandit Mahasabha, the Amavasya on October 21 will only last for 14 minutes, making it an inauspicious day for celebrating Diwali. Based on astrological assessments, the Sabha has stated that the rituals for Diwali and Paya Shraddha should commence at 3:23 PM on October 20.
The priests emphasized that observing Diwali on October 21 would not conform to traditional Hindu practices. To reach this determination, religious scholars and astrologers meticulously analyzed the lunar calendar and referenced ancient scriptures.
