The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list in Odisha, along with 15 other states and Union territories, will begin on July 1.

In a press release, it was stated that the entire process will last for more than two months, with the final voters list following the SIR set to be published on September 6.

As part of the SIR for electoral rolls, approximately 38,123 booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits throughout Odisha to verify voter information. To support the BLOs and promote transparency, 8,391 booth-level agents (BLAs) have been appointed by various political parties within the state. As of May 12, 2026, Odisha has 3,34,33,659 electors distributed across 147 Assembly constituencies. The BLOs will cover all 37,606 polling stations during this initiative. They will visit each household to confirm the details of existing electors, register new voters who have reached the age of 18, remove the names of deceased or relocated individuals, and rectify any inaccuracies.

BLAs nominated by political parties will be present during field verification to provide assistance, raise objections, and ensure that no eligible voter is overlooked. Following the fieldwork, a draft electoral roll will be published to accommodate claims and objections. The final rolls will be released after addressing these claims, serving as the foundation for the upcoming elections in 2027.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the preparation and training of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLAs will be finalized between May 20 and May 29. Subsequently, the BLOs will conduct house-to-house visits from May 30 to June 28. The rationalization of polling stations is expected to be completed by June 28, with the draft electoral roll scheduled for publication on July 5.

Claims and objections may be submitted from July 5 to August 4, while the resolution of these claims and objections will occur concurrently from July 5 to September 2. The final voters’ list, following the Special Information Report (SIR) exercise, will be published on September 6.

The Election Commission emphasized that particular focus will be directed towards tribal areas, urban slums, and colleges to facilitate the enrollment of youth. The voluntary linking of Aadhaar with the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) will persist throughout the drive to eliminate duplicates.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) RS Gopalan indicated that the burden on Odisha will be reduced due to its substantial progress in cleaning up the electoral roll, achieving approximately 90 to 95 percent mapping of current voters with the 2002 electoral roll.
