NGMA Director General Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam meets Odisha Chief Secretary to discuss establishing a new Regional Eastern Centre in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The proposed establishment of National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) Regional Eastern Centre in Bhubaneswar took a significant step forward after NGMA Director General Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam met Odisha Chief Secretary to discuss the roadmap for the ambitious cultural project.
The high-level meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Government of Odisha and NGMA for setting up a world-class institution dedicated to the promotion, preservation and dissemination of modern and contemporary Indian art in the eastern region.
Among the key issues discussed were the identification and allocation of suitable land for the Centre’s permanent campus, provision of temporary premises to enable NGMA to begin operations at the earliest, development of museum infrastructure in line with international standards, and formulation of a long-term strategy covering exhibitions, education, conservation, research, outreach and public engagement.
The proposed Regional Eastern Centre is envisioned as a major cultural hub that will showcase Odisha’s rich artistic heritage alongside modern and contemporary Indian art. It is also expected to serve as a platform for artists, scholars, students and art enthusiasts while fostering collaborations with museums, educational institutions, cultural organisations and creative practitioners across eastern India.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India’s cultural ecosystem and positioning Odisha as a leading destination for visual arts and museum excellence.
Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam expressed gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister for his support and vision in strengthening the State’s cultural infrastructure. He also thanked the Union Minister of Culture for continued guidance and encouragement in advancing the establishment of the NGMA Regional Eastern Centre as a landmark national cultural institution.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Government of Odisha and NGMA agreeing to work closely for the early operationalisation of the Regional Eastern Centre, which is expected to significantly enhance the country’s cultural landscape and promote eastern India’s artistic legacy.
