A designated POCSO court in Kendrapara has sentenced a 35-year-old man to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for the kidnapping and rape of a minor girl in a case dating back to 2013.
Additional District Judge and Special Judge (POCSO) Pragyan Paramita Roul also levied a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict, Kalindi Mallick, a resident of Srutipur village within the jurisdiction of Patkura police. Should he fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional six months of imprisonment.
Furthermore, the court instructed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to provide compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to the victim in accordance with the Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme. Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahu indicated that the ruling was based on the testimonies of nine witnesses and the medical report.
The incident occurred on April 4, 2013, when the victim, who was approximately 15 years old at the time, was abducted by Mallick while attending a local function. The police managed to rescue the girl after a year in Koraput.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s father, Kalindi was accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his minor daughter. Following the FIR, police apprehended Mallick under sections 376(2n), 363, and 366 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
