On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared that the state government will soon introduce a film policy aimed at the comprehensive development of Odia cinema and the safeguarding of artists.
While addressing the 35th and 36th State Film Awards ceremony at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to providing technical assistance for the production of high-quality Odia films. He mentioned that he has engaged in extensive discussions with members of the film industry, and the insights gained will be utilized for the advancement and growth of Odia cinema.
He presented the Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami Samman for 2023 to veteran actor Shyamalenedu Bhattacharya and veteran actress Namrata Das for 2024, with each recipient awarded a cash prize of ₹5 lakh. Additionally, he honored artists who excelled in 62 categories for films produced in 2023 and 2024.
The chief minister stated that the government will offer international-level training to young talents in Odisha and aims to transform Kalinga Studio into a premier digital and post-production center in the nation.
Highlighting that Odia films represent Odia Asmita, Majhi urged collective efforts as Team Odisha to foster the sector’s development. He remarked, “If producers create films that integrate modernity with Odia society and culture, audiences will return to theaters. There is also an abundance of funding available, and the government is open to your suggestions.”
He further encouraged the citizens of the state to support and promote Odia films, urging them to visit cinema halls to watch movies, as countless anonymous technicians, writers, and underprivileged workers rely on each film for their livelihoods.
